"Ever since I was a young clown I had a dream. A dream of making the big Theme Park money." Krusty the Clown

Krustyland is the central setting of the Simpsons Ride.

Description

Krustyland is an amusement park within the vicinity of the American town of Springfield. The amusement park was named and predominately themed around children entertainer Krusty the Clown, along with the violent cartoon characters Itchy & Scratchy. The park was powered by a highly dangerous nuclear-reactor which mutated animals to become giant when left exposed to the radiation. Many of the attractions and services in the park were of low quality. The park appears to have been largely damaged or even destroyed.

Staff

Much of Krustyland's staff was composed of residents of Springfield.

  • Apu Nahasapeemapetilon: Apu is a convenience-store owner who in Krustyland, runs the concession stand with employees including Jailbird and Jeremy Freedman. He is married to, "Madame Manjula" and ignores health-code violations.
  • Barney Gumble (formerly): Barney Gumble is a binge-drinking alcoholic who used to play Scratchy before being fired for being drunk on the job.
  • Cletus:
  • Doc Brown (formerly): Doc Emmett Brown was founder and leader of the Institute of Future Technology which Krustyland took over and replaced. Shortly after Krusty seized control, he hired Doc Brown to work the ticket-booth at the entrance and ordered him to cut his hair. Since then, Doc has been seen planning to use time-travel to regain control of his institute.
  • Edna Krabappel: An elementary school teacher who also worked as a dancer for the "Isotope-ettes" in the Duff Pavilion.
  • Ghostbuster: A Ghostbuster hired to exterminate ghosts from the Haunted Condo attraction.

History

Background

Origins

In the late March of 2007, inventor Doc Brown was losing control of his organization the Institute of Future Technology which Krusty was attempting to take over. Doc Brown was going to sign a contract which would save the institute, only for his business ally to be accidentally run-over by scientist Professor Frink in one of Brown's DeLorean time-machines while Frink was returning to the past to try and save the institute. After this, Doc Brown was left with no other alternative than to sell the institute to Krusty who then planned to develop it into the amusement-park Krustyland which he hired Brown to work the ticket-booth of and ordered to cut his hair.[1] Doc Brown would go on to make plans involving time-travel to try and undo Krusty's takeover of the institute.[2]

Krustyland hired various theme-park artists designers who were fired from other, higher quality theme-parks whom were fired for inappropriate behaviour. Krustyland was largely run by townsfolk of Springfield and built entirely by prison convicts.[3]. The park was also partially powered by a dubiously maintained Nuclear reactor, maintained by scientist Professor Frink who rose concerns of it causing monstrous growth mutations which Krusty ignored. When Frink questioned how Krusty was able to take over the Institute of Future Technology with his theme-park, Frink used one of Doc Brown's DeLoreans and travelled back to 2007 where he accidentally ran-over Doc Brown's business-ally, allowing for Krusty to take over the Institute.

Sideshow Bob

At some point, Krusty opened a new rollercoaster called, "Krusty's All-New Thrilltacular Upsy-Downsy Spins-Aroundsy Teen-Operated Thrill Ride BY THE NUMBERS" in Krustyland to replace the Tooth Chipper. This was during the time that Krusty was in debt due to losing money when betting on highschool Lacrosse, causing the Repo man to take his clown nose and extensions. Many people (including the Simpsons family) attended the opening of this new rollercoaster in an extremely long line. At the same time, Krusty's sidekick turned criminal enemy Sideshow Bob escaped from prison and travelled to the amusement park for revenge on Krusty and the Simpsons. Bob disguised himself as the cat character Scratchy in a suit stolen from Barney. When Krusty chose the Simpsons to be amongst the first guests to ride his rollercoaster, he and the family were held at gunpoint by Bob then forced onto the rollercoaster for Bob's revenge.

Bob put the Simpsons and other guests onto the rollercoaster, set to be destroyed by a wrecking-ball and explosives. These flew different members of the family into different attractions rigged to be death-traps by Bob. Lisa and Bart got stuck in the, "Happy Little Elves in Panda Land" where Bob turned a Panda animatronic into a killer mech suit. Meanwhile, Homer and Marge landed in, "Captain Dinosaur’s Pirate-Rip Off" which Bob rigged to tempt them and lead them into a trap, which Bob warned them about via waterfall project them to give them a chance. Homer immediately triggered the trap when he went for beer left out by Bob with the dinosaur animatronics, causing a chain reaction which destroyed the ride.

The Simpsons got stuck in the waters of the Krusty's Wet-and-Smokey Stunt Show and were narrowly saved by Maggie, who had grown to immense size due to the nuclear reactor which Krustyland used. Bob then stole her pacifier and used it to try and lead her into destroying Springfield. The Simpsons managed to save Maggie and returned home where they sat on their couch, only for this to have been revealed as still part of the ride by the aliens Kang & Kodos who fastened them into the Death Drop and dropped them by the sky so their experience would still end by the gift-shop. The Simpsons landed in a largely destroyed and burning Krustyland, where Bob was about to murder the other guests only to be crushed by falling debris.

Later history

The later history of the park, particularly after it was largely destroyed, is unknown.

Trivia

  • Prior to its first physical appearance in the Simpsons Ride, Krustyland was mentioned in the classic run of the Simpsons TV show. In S4E1 "Kamp Krusty" (1992), Euro-Krustyland was mentioned by Mr. Black who was president of Euro-Krustyland for 15 years before the park blew up. In S6E22 "Round Springfield" (1995), Krusty had a press-conference in which he contested that several tourists were decapitated before the Krustyland House of Knives.
  • Krustyland replacing the Institute of Future Technology is a tribute to extinct Universal Studios attraction, Back to the Future: The Ride.
  • Various attractions in Krustyland are satires of Disney Parks attractions. The Haunted Condo is the Haunted Mansion, The Sea Captain’s Queasy Time Lagoon is the Jungle Cruise, Captain Dinosaur’s Pirate-Rip Off is Pirates of the Caribbean, the Hall of Secretaries of the Interior is the Hall of Presidents, and the Four Food Groups Singing Spectacular references extinct EPCOT attractions Kitchen Cabaret and Food Rocks. The Happy Little Elves in Panda Land in the ride is a clear parody of It's a Small World which Bart describes as, "A fate worse than death". The Captain Dinosaur’s Pirate-Rip Off scene has visible inspiration from Pirates of the Caribbean, with Sideshow Bob's appearance on the waterfall even being inspired by the Davy Jones/Blackbeard projections of said ride which were removed from American parks in 2018. On the map of the park, Sleeping Itchy's Castle references Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland, It's a Long Long Line! is another reference to It's a Small World, Krusty's L.A. Traffic Jam may reference Disney's infamous Superstar Limo (often considered to be amongst the worst Disney rides ever made), and the Spit 'n' Watch Aerial Gondolas reference the Skyway.
  • The Ghostbuster appearance on the screen for the Haunted Condo tributes how the Ghostbusters used to appear in Universal Studios for attractions like Ghostbusters Spooktacular.
  • Doc Brown's clipboard during meet 'n' greets proposes the theory that Back to the Future villain Biff Tannen made a deal with Sideshow Bob and/or Krusty the Clown causing the downfall of the institute.[4]
  • Krusty's Wet-and-Smokey Stunt Show is a parody of the controversial, "Shamoo" orca shows in SeaWorld.
  • Steven Spielberg can be seen waiting in-line for Captain Dinosuar's Pirate Rip-Off.
